To all 7th and 8th grade parents and students:
Norfolk Recreation hosts 5 dances during the school year for the 7th and 8th grade students. Typically, these dances occur in October, December, January, February and March. We know from past experience how much students enjoy going to the dances and want each one to be successful. To ensure that the dance is enjoyed by everyone, the following expectations have been established regarding appropriate dress and behavior:

    General Behavior Expectations:
o       No aggressive or rude behavior toward others
o       No use of profanity
o       When dancing, close “grinding” between boys and girls is not allowed
o       Inappropriate activity or touching is not allowed
o       Once students have arrived at the dance they are expected to remain at the dance until an adult picks them up
Dress Expectations:
o       Shorts/pants must cover hipbones
o       Shirts must touch waistline of shorts/pantso    Undergarments must be covered
o       Clothing cannot be excessively tighto   No articles of clothing may display inappropriate logos or sayings
o       No hats are allowed o   No oversized sweatshirts are allowed in the dance room
     Drop Off/ Pick Up Procedures:
o       Please drop off your child no earlier than 6:45 PM
o       Please pick up your child no later than 9:15 PM
o       We do not encourage walking home and ask for rides to be provided.

Although we would hope that it would not need to be stated, any activity that is in violation of the law such as drug, alcohol, or tobacco use, the use of counterfeit tickets, and the destruction of property will be handled accordingly by the police on duty.
It is recognized that this list does not cover every situation that could occur. Students are expected to be responsible and respectful at all times. Students should understand that attending dances is a privilege, not a right. We expect students to abide by these standards, and if they do not, parents will be called and asked to pick up their child.  Final decisions regarding dress and behavior standards rest with the Norfolk Recreation administration.
Please feel free to contact us with any questions, comments or concerns.
