Norfolk Economic Development – Selectmen’s Meeting Notes(draft 2)

 August 18, 20097pm

Attendees:

Board of Selectmen,
Walter Byron
Mark Nelson

Discussion regarding the proposed EDC web page.

Mark Nelson and Walter Byron made a presentation to the Board of Selectmen's regarding the proposal by the Economic Development Committee to add pages to the virtual Norfolk web site, which would encourage development in the various business and commercial districts in town. Marian Harrington,Administrative Assistant, had provided the BOS with the materials, which Bob Nicodemus had forwarded to her. These materials had not been read by the Selectmen by the time this meeting.

Walter Byron made the presentation, following the presentation points reviewed at the EDC meeting on August 12, 2009 and using the same materials that Marian had given the Selectmen. Mark Nelson added his reinforcing comments at the meeting.

The EDC received a "ringing endorsement" of what was proposed and the Board of Selectmen asked how soon these pages could be added. Mark Nelson indicated that they probably could be added to the web site by the middle of September. Walter and Mark asked them to consider who the"contact person" should be and the Board of Selectmen agreed to take that under advisement. Mark Nelson and Walter Byron also asked to be put on theAugust 31, 2009 agenda for feedback and the Board of Selectmen agreed.

There were two items the Board of Selectmen asked us to consider include as we finalize the content of the additional EDC web pages.

First, was to extract and utilize some of the favorable language from the recent S&P report which upgraded the Town's rating. Jack Hathaway promised that he would email us a copy of that S&P report.

econd, was an input from Rob Garrity about work from the"Energy Committee" where there may be an opportunity to add a use of the Southwood property for a commercial wind generating facility. According to Rob, that area of town is, per state data, the only area with sufficient wind to allow such a facility. The EDC will need to better understand this in order to add the appropriate language to the Southwood page.

It was a quick, successful meeting and the EDC will see the Board again in two weeks.

 Respectfully submitted

 Lori Scholl, EDC clerk
