Board of Selectmen meetings are generally held bi-weekly on Monday evenings at 7:00 p.m. in Room 124 of the Town Hall. Meetings are open to the public and carried on Norfolk Cable Television. Anyone any interested in speaking or addressing the Board at a meeting should call the Selectmen's office at 508-440-2855 to be scheduled.
Functions
The Board of Selectmen are the town's Chief Elected Officials. The Board's formal, legal responsibilities are scattered through hundreds of statutes and in the town's bylaws and special acts of the legislature. They have general supervision over all town government matters not specifically delegated by law or vote of the Town Meeting to another officer or board.
In particular, the Board of Selectmen exercise the authority to call town elections and to prepare the warrant for town meetings. The Selectmen make appointments to various municipal boards and committees and appoint the Town Administrator and Town Counsel. They grant a variety of licenses and permits and sign warrants for the payment of all town bills.
Things to Know
This office prepares and publishes the Annual Town Report. The report contains a narrative of the activities of each town department during the fiscal year. The report is available to the public on or about May 1st of each year.
The Board of Selectmen's Office issues all passes for parking at the Old Town Hall Parking Lot (100 Main Street) by Norfolk residents using the MBTA trains. Residents wishing to use this parking must apply at the Selectmen's Office for a permit. Individuals must provide proof of residency in Norfolk, i.e., name, address, phone number, and the vehicles plate number. This pass shall be attached to the rear view mirror. Failure to follow this procedure could result in a parking ticket from the Police Department.

Permits are available for one-day parking for residents using the MBTA trains to travel to Boston for a day trip. Parking for day trips is available at the new Town Hall. Residents must sign in at the Selectmen s Office where they will be issued a one-day pass for their vehicle, so they will not be ticketed by the Police Department.
Marian Harrington, Executive Assistant in the Board of Selectmen's Office also acts as the Parking Clerk for the Town. Anyone receiving a parking ticket from the Police Department has the right to request a hearing to appeal their ticket. Questions or problems relating to parking tickets should be addressed to Marian Harrington.
The Norfolk Board of Selectmen have jurisdiction over the following licenses: Liquor licenses; Class I, II, III motor vehicle licenses; Common Victualler licenses; Taxi licenses; Livery licenses; Entertainment licenses; and Directional Sign permits.
The Board of Selectmen grant approval to conduct events on Town Hill and at the Gazebo. A written request must be forwarded to the office for approval by the Board at their next regular meeting.

Approval by the Board of Selectmen is required for solicitation of any kind at the Norfolk Transfer Station on Medway Branch. A written request must be forwarded to the office for approval by the Board at their next regular meeting.
All submissions of articles and petitions for Town Meetings, and all preparations for Town Meeting Warrants are handled through the Board of Selectmen's Office.
