Progress To Date:
April 25, 2007: Norfolk's Affordable Housing Committee conducted a public forum on Affordable Housing and The Affordable Housing Plan. The forum was broadcast live on Norfolk Cable Channel 22, with a call-in option that enabled residents to watch the meeting as it occured and to call in to ask questions, make suggestions and provide comments.
March 22, 2007: Effective March 14, 2007 Norfolk's Affordable Housing Plan has been approved by the State Department of Housing and Community Development.
January 25, 2007: Updated State Subsidized Housing Inventory reflects that Norfolk has achieved an increase from 3.5 % to 3.89% affordable housing. This increase is the result of the addition of the 11 affordable units at Town Center Condominiums.
January 11, 2007: Affordable Housing Study Committee has full membership, including a representative from each of the Housing Authority, ZBA and Planning Board, in addition to four community members.
November 6, 2006: Board of Selectmen establish Affordable Housing Study Committee. The committee will include a representative from each of the Housing Authority, ZBA and Planning Board, in addition to four community members, ideally one from each voting precinct.
October 24, 2006: Fall Town Meeting:
Article 11, submitted by Community Preservation Committee, was approved, allocating an additional $100,000 to the down payment assistance program. This brings the total funds available to this program to $200,000, allowing a total of (10) $20,000 grants to be awarded to qualifying applicants seeking affordable housing.
Article 15, submitted by the Planning Board, was approved, amending the Zoning Bylaws to require new projects, which create ten (10) or more dwelling units, shall contribute to the local stock of affordable units at a rate of 10% of the total units created by the project.
October18, 2006: Affordable Housing Plan is submitted to the State for review. It is proposed that, once formed, the Affordable Housing Committee will continue to review and revise this document in line with State, local government and public opinion. The document should be ready for formal acceptance by the Town at the Spring Town Meeting (May 2007).
October 2, 2006: ZBA grants Norfolk Landing, LLC, a Comprehensive Permit with conditions for the development of 28 single family homes, of which 7 will be affordable, on a portion of the old Norfolk Airport site.
June 25, 2006: The Town starts work on an Affordable Housing Plan based on the June 04 Community Development Plan.
