Board of Library Trustees
A regular meeting of the Norfolk Library Board of Trustees was held on June 23, 2010, at the Library. In attendance were Robin Glasser, Director, Sarina Bluhm, Associate Director, and the following trustees: Kenneth Nelson, Harvey Boulay, Chair, and Kumkum Malik.
Mr. Nelson called the meeting to order at 6:40 p.m.
Approval of Minutes
The minutes of the April meeting will be confirmed in September.
Director’s Report: Mrs. Glasser reported on the following;
- Staff resignations: Andrea Ingala, the children’s librarian is moving. A strong applicant pool is expected
- Rosemary O’Koren: her reduced hours were a conflict with her other priorities.
Connie Wilman: is moving. Staff will pick up her critical hours.
- EEC contract renewed for $7,000.
Associate Director’s Report
Ms. Bluhm reported on Library activity for May 2010, with no unusual patterns or changes in circulation numbers.
- Self-Check was 44%. Highest day was 5/8. One year ago, the average was 43%. Total circulation was 7180. One year ago it was 9027. Number of patron visits was 1124; one year ago it was 1230. There were 48 meetings in the Library during May.
Friends Report
- Southwick Zoo in Mendon: discount tickets donated. Admission is $12.95 for children, $18.95 for adults. Friends have brought 50 tickets. Patrons will get the discount.
- $3,000 had been donated towards book budget to meet our state guidelines.
- Additional self-check station to be running in a few weeks. Robin is instructing how to funnel checkouts through the new system.
- Purchases for Library: BYKI; Before You Know It – Language Learning Experience. A click thru Link on Library Home Page for Patrons. You can create your own account, and it will retain the session. You can learn to read, write, and speak languages. Geared for tourists or business usages of language being learned.
New Business
- Providence Baptist Church renewal due from July1 through Dec 31, 2010. Motion carried unanimously.
- Hours of Operation: Hours are being changed for consistency and to accommodate further reduction. They will be effective July 1, 2010, and a handout will be available for Patrons.
- Review of Updated Security Policy
Landscaping: Lavender around dwarf maple tree at entrance to be removed as it is choking the tree.
Letters of congratulations to be written to Trustee colleagues in Millis, Walpole and Foxboro, congratulating them on approval of new library and additions.
Old Business
- Hours of operation: should meeting of Trustees be changed to accommodate the new hours of operation? Motion to continue on same time and day carried unanimously.
Next regular trustee meeting – September 16, 2010, at 6 p.m.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:40 p.m.
