Board of Library Trustees
November 19, 2009

A regular meeting of the Norfolk Library Board of Trustees was held on November 19, 2009 at the Library. In attendance were Robin Glasser, Director, Sarina Bluhm, Associate Director, and the following trustees: Harvey Boulay, Kenneth Nelson.

Mr. Nelson called the meeting to order at 6:05 p.m.\
Approval of Minutes.
The minutes of the meeting of October 15, 2009 were approved.

Director’s Report.
Mrs. Glasser reported on the following:
The new telephone system is still not functional;
Progress on Norfolk Reads Together” project. Publicity campaign about to begin. Author, Nathaniel Philbrick has agreed to speak Feb 2 as has a docent from the New Bedford Whaling Museum;
SAILS is partnering with Verizon to launch a voice notification system that will save our staff considerable time;
We are now using Constant Contact to send emails about Library programs. Can reach thousands of library patrons in minutes;

Associate Director Report.  
Ms. Bluhm reported on Library activity for the October, 2009 as follows: Self-check – 46% of circulation. Total circulation for the month: 9325 items and 1,321 patron visits. 45 meetings were held at the library.

The Library is purchasing several Dell off-lease personal computers at $390 per unit. These will replace the last of the oldest PC’s that were acquired from the Social security Administration many years ago.

Friends Report.  
Mrs. Glasser reported that the Friends approved $1,000 for winter programming.

New Business.
The Trustees VOTED to modify policies regarding lost materials that are subsequently found with patrons requesting a rebate of the fine. There will now be a four month limit on any rebates. After four months there will be no rebate.

The Trustees VOTED to extend permission to use the Community Room to the Providence Baptist Church through June 30, 2010.

Old business.
The Trustees continued discussion of a possible relationship with Amazon.com as a portal on the Library website and other measures to increase non-Town revenue.

Fy’2011 budget. The Trustees and staff continued discussion of the implications of the budgets for 2011.
