Board of Library Trustees
June 16, 2009
A regular meeting of the Norfolk Library Board of Trustees was held on June 16, 2009 at the Library. In attendance were Robin Glasser, Director, Sarina Bluhm, Associate Director, Mary Jo Gothorpe, President, Friends of Norfolk Public Library, and the following trustees: Harvey Boulay, Kenneth Nelson.
Mr. Nelson called the meeting to order at 6:35 p.m.
Director’s Report.
Mrs. Glasser reported on the following:
A “pergola” with dimensions 10 by 14 feet will be installed over the bluestone area outside the Fiction Room this summer. This is completely supported by private donations, and is in tribute to William Gothorpe;
Sam Ziegler estimates that the mural restoration will start in July;
SAILS will be rolling out new on-line registration;
Norfolk will be the test site for the SAILS family link to patron records system.
Associate Director Report.
Ms. Bluhm reported on Library activity for the May, 2009 as follows: Self-check – 43% of circulation. Total circulation for the month: 9027 items and 1,230 patron visits. 32 meetings were held at the library.
Friends Report. Mrs. Gothorpe reported that the Friends voted to expend funds to support new computers for the Children’s area; a disc-inspection machine for DVDs.
New Business.
The Trustees VOTED to authorize payment of the remaining balance to ADP Contracting for work on the Schoolhouse Room.
The Trustees VOTED to adopt the following revisions in the Library’s Service Policy:
Borrowing privileges for patrons who owe $10.00 or more in past-due fines and/or lost or damaged materials will be suspended until such fines and fees are paid in full or satisfactory payment arrangements are made with the Director. Borrowing privileges will also be suspended for patrons who have 5 or more unreturned items that are 4 or more weeks overdue. Borrowing privileges will be revoked for an entire family in the case where an individual's account is blocked due to unreturned items that are more than 90 days past due and have been billed. No new cards will be issued to additional family members until all existing delinquent accounts are cleared.
Old business. Fy’2010 budget the Trustees and staff discussed the implications of the budgets for 2010 and 2011. These include reduction in Children’s Assistant Librarian hours; full-time staff to take over early opening activities; Sunday hours reduced to January through mid-April.
