Board of Library Trustees
May 21, 2009
A regular meeting of the Norfolk Library Board of Trustees was held on May 21, 2009 at the Library. In attendance were Robin Glasser, Director, Sarina Bluhm, Associate Director, Mary Jo Gothorpe, President, Friends of Norfolk Public Library, and the following trustees: Harvey Boulay, Kenneth Nelson.
Mr. Nelson called the meeting to order at 6:10 p.m.
Approval of Minutes.
The minutes of the meeting of April 16, 2009 were approved.
Reorganization.
On a motion from Mr. Boulay, the Trustees VOTED the following officers for 2009-2010:
Kenneth M. Nelson, Chair
Kumkum Malik, Clerk
Harvey Boulay, Assistant Clerk
Director’s Report.
Mrs. Glasser reported on the following:
The Library Spending Waiver proposal is still being considered, the Trustees remain opposed;
Sam Ziegler is in contact with the mural restoration company. No start date yet;
A replacement for the decaying window sash in the Fiction area has been ordered by Facilities Management;
New locks for the Schoolhouse room are on special order;
A new Town-wide telephone system will be installed within the next 2 weeks.
Associate Director Report.
Ms. Bluhm reported on Library activity for the April, 2009 as follows: Self-check – 45% of circulation. Total circulation for the month: 8793 items and 1,314 patron visits. 36 meetings were held at the library.
Repairs are being made to the sagging floor in the Cataloging Office.
Friends Report. Mrs. Gothorpe reported that the Friends have finished the last remaining Book and Bake Sale issues. A new team is ready to lead the event next year.
New Business.
Mrs. Glasser recommended changing meeting room use policy to allow use by businesses & for-profits during off-peak hours (daytime) and charging an hourly use fee. The Trustees VOTED to adopt the fee schedule.
Old business. Fy’2010 budget the Trustees and staff discussed, generally, the implications of the budgets for 2010 and 2011.
Next regular trustee meeting – June 16, 2009 prior to the re-convened Town Meeting at the King Philip Middle School.
