Meeting of the Norfolk Public Library Board of Trustees
October 30, 2008
A regular meeting of the Norfolk Public Library Board of Trustees was held on October 30, 2008 at the Norfolk Public Library. In attendance were Robin Glasser, Library Director; and the following Trustees; Harvey Boulay, & Mary Jo Gothorpe.
Mary Jo Gothorpe called the meeting to order at 6.00 P.M.
Approval of Minutes
Approval of the meeting minutes for September 17, 2008 were VOTED.
Guest Presentation
Betsy Pyne of the Norfolk Historical Commission presented a sign proposed for the Ware Crypt near the Library main entrance. The trustees enthusiastically agreed that the sign was appropriate. There was discussion of an equivalent sign for the schoolhouse room.
Director’s Report
The opening of the Early Childhood Resource Center will be Thursday, November 13 from 6-8 p.m. 685 Invitations have been sent out .
The MBLC has announced the elimination of the Public Libraries Fund.
The Norfolk Historical Commission will open an exhibition of photographs titled, “The Life and Times of Alex Waitkevich” Sunday, November 9 at 2 p.m.
Associate Director’s Report
Sarina Bluhm reported on September circulation activity. There were 26 meeting room uses. The self-checkout percentage was 44% for September.
Ann Asci received a certificate for 20 years of service from the Selectmen. Her retirement party will be next Friday.
New Business
The Trustees discussed plans for upcoming budget submissions.
Old Business
The Trustees re-scheduled the review of the Development Plan for the November meeting.
Schoolhouse Room
Bid opening for the project will be October 31 at 1:00 p.m.
Friends of the Library Report
Mary Jo Gothorpe reported that the Friends of the Library met on October 6. Planning for the membership drive was a major topic. Thayer Olson and Ann Hansen were made co-chairs. The Friends have agreed to support the “One Book—One Norfolk” program, as well as $5,000 for general library purposes.

The next meeting is scheduled for November 20, 2008 at 6:00 P.M. at the Norfolk Public Library.

There being no further business it was moved and seconded and the Trustees VOTED to adjourn the meeting at 6:50 P.M.
