Meeting of the Norfolk Public Library Board of Trustees
September 17, 2008
A regular meeting of the Norfolk Public Library Board of Trustees was held on September 17, 2008 at the Norfolk Public Library. In attendance were Robin Glasser, Library Director; Sarina Bluhm, Associate Director and the following Trustees; Harvey Boulay, Mary Jo Gothorpe, and Kenneth Nelson.
The meeting was called to order at 6.02 P.M.
Approval of Minutes
Approval of the meeting minutes for June 17, 2008 were VOTED.
Staff Appointments
Mrs. Glasser announced the appointment of Sarina Bluhm as Associate Director and Andrea Ingala as Youth Services librarian, both effective September 15. The Trustees welcomed Andrea to the library team and congratulated Sarina on her appointment.
Schoolhouse Room
Mr. Boulay reported that issues with the fire and building codes had been resolved and the schoolhouse fit-out project was ready to go to bid.
Associate Trustee
The Trustees VOTED to appoint Dr. Kumkum Malik as an associate trustee, effective immediately.
New Business
Mrs. Glasser has submitted a proposal, at the request of the Norfolk School Committee, for resumption of the shared library services program.
The Trustees reviewed and discussed the Development Plan required by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners (MBLC). After discussion, the Trustees VOTED to adopt the Development Plan.
The Trustees VOTED to award a contract to the Associate Director.
The Trustees discussed, generally, the proposal from the By-Law Committee to require charges for use of meeting and other rooms in all Town buildings. The Trustees agreed to oppose such charges as inappropriate and harmful to the Library’s mission as a center of community activity.
Director’s Report
Mrs. Glasser reported on the following:
The reports required of the MBLC were filed in August and September.
The “Netlender” report was filed in September.
A robust schedule of fall programs has begun.
Friends of the Library Report
Mrs. Gothorpe reported that the Friends of the Library had their first meeting September 8. The Friends have agreed to support the “One Book—One Norfolk” program, as well as $5,000 for the purchase of additional library books and materials.

Next Meeting
The next meeting is scheduled for October 16, 2008 at 6:00 P.M. at the Norfolk Public Library. There will a meeting with the Advisory Board September 24 at 7:45 p.m.
Adjournment
There being no further business it was moved and seconded and the Trustees VOTED to adjourn the meeting at 7:15 P.M.
