Norfolk Public Library Board of Trustees
June 17, 2008
A regular meeting of the Norfolk Public Library Board of Trustees was held on June 17, 2008 at the Norfolk Public Library. In attendance were Robin Glasser, Library Director; Heather Pisani Kristl, Associate Director; and the following Trustees; Harvey Boulay, Mary Jo Gothorpe, and Kenneth Nelson.
The meeting was called to order at 6.40 P.M.
Approval of Minutes
Approval of the meeting minutes for May 13, 2008 were VOTED.
Director’s Report
Mrs. Glasser reported on the following:
Application for a grant to support the Book One program was rejected by Norfolk Community League, the NCL did continue funding for the pass to the Boston Museum of Science
An application for a grant for $10,000 was submitted to the Mass. Dept. of Early Education and Care Resource Center
The theme of the summer reading program for adults and children will be “Wild Reads”
Heather Pisani-Kristl has submitted her resignation effect mid-September. The Trustees expressed their gratitude for her exemplary service to the Library and the community
The FY 2008 operating budget will be closed out satisfactorily.
Associate Director’s Report
Ms Pisani Kristl reported that circulation for May was 9,570 with 8756 patron visits. Self check usage in May was at 43%; the highest day was 56%. There were 34 meetings scheduled at the library.
There was an oil tank overflow that was cleaned up by the vendor.
Library-sponsored teen programs scheduled for the summer include teen programs include a 4-part “teen finance” series, a chocolate tasting program, “Creature Double Feature “ movie afternoon and a program by Hillary Cohen the Town Animal Control Officer.
School House Project
Mr. Boulay reported that the sprinkler work is complete and discussions with the Building Commissioner regarding fire rating of the schoolhouse room are under way.
Friends of the Library Report
Mrs. Gothorpe reported that the Friends of the Library Annual Book and Bake Sale netted $17,800—a new record. There are currently 446 members of the Friends with $13,900 received in dues and other support. The Friends have retained Cecelia Shipley, a local landscaper, to attend to the exterior plantings.
New Business
The Trustees considered a request from the Providence Baptist Church and VOTED to extend its Sunday use of the Meeting Room through December, 2008.
The Trustees considered a request to support the “Stand for Children” program.
There was discussion of the scheduled override election.
There was discussion of the impact on the Public Library of the possible closing of the library/media centers at the two elementary schools.
Old Business
The trustees discussed options for addressing the Director’s compensation issue.

The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at 6:00 P.M. at the Norfolk Public Library.
Adjournment
There being no further business it was moved and seconded and the Trustees VOTED to adjourn the meeting at 7:15 P.M.
