Meeting of the Norfolk Public Library Board of Trustees
January 17, 2008
A regular meeting of the Norfolk Public Library Board of Trustees was held on January 17, 2008 at the Norfolk Public Library. In attendance were Robin Glasser, Library Director; Heather Pisani Kristl, Associate Director; Mary Jo Gothorpe, President of the Friends of the Norfolk Public Library; and the following Trustees; Ken Nelson, and Mary Jo Gothorpe.
The meeting was called to order at 6.06 P.M.
Approval of Minutes
The December 20, 2007 meeting minutes were approved.
Director’s Report
Mrs. Glasser reported that the Guide to Services brochure is being printed by the MA Corrections Industries, and will be mailed in early February. Area businesses: Dedham Savings Bank, Prudential Page Realty, Wagner-McDonough Attorneys, and Norfolk County Dental Associates have made donations totaling $1,800 to cover the cost of printing and mailing to all Norfolk households.
Mrs. Glasser announced that a $2,500 grant was received from Norfolk Community League, and it will be used to add many needed titles to the Juvenile Fiction collection.
Strata Bank has a $500.00 grant program geared toward increasing materials for fourth and fifth graders. The application has been submitted.
The Fiscal 2009 Budget has been submitted to the Selectmen. This year two budgets were submitted, one for level services and one for minimal acceptable services.
Adult programs continue to be well attended. In January Elder Hostel sent a representative to discuss the Elder Hostel Travel Program. Over 25 people attended. On January 29th a program entitled Lighthouses of New England will be presented.
In February, a five-week program is being presented beginning Sunday, February 3 at 2:00 pm. by Dr. Kumkum Malik and titled Mind Body Motherhood: The Ocean Within You. Registration is required for this program.
Associate Director’s Report
Ms Pisani Kristl reported that self check usage in December was at 40%; the highest percent of usage during the month was 43% One year ago the average self check usage was at 31% for the same period.
Circulation for the month was 8,155 items
There were 34 non-library related meetings in the meeting rooms during December.
Library Associate Carolyn Iacoviello has broken her leg and will not be able work until the end of February. Tim West has been hired as backup for evenings and weekends.
School House Project
There are four items that need clarification before the bid document can be submitted. The sprinkler system is one of these sticky items, and contact with the sprinkler company in proving difficult
The framing for a mural of Sweet Meadow Farm is complete. Sam Zeigler will continue the installation and final framing of the mural in the magazine reading room.

Friends of the Library Report
Mrs. Gothorpe reported that the Friends of the Library held their Annual Meeting on January 7, 2008. Elections were held and the following members were voted to board positions for 2008. Mary Jo Gothorpe, President; Maureen Buck, Vice President; Beverly Baldoni, Secretary; Denise D’Entremont and Thayer Olson, Co-treasurers. The Annual Friends of the Library Membership Drive will begin following a mailing at the end of January. This year as a thank you for joining the Friends of the Library there will be a raffle of a Friends’ tote bag full of Bestsellers and Reading Comforts. The tote bag is valued at over $200.00.

Old Business
There has still been no response from the Selectmen to a second letter sent to them by the trustees regarding Mrs. Glasser’s compensation.
The Long Range Plan review has been rescheduled to the February meeting.

There being no further business it was moved and seconded and the Trustees VOTED to adjourn the meeting at 6:32 P.M.
