Meeting of the Norfolk Public Library Board of Trustees
December 20 2007

A regular meeting of the Norfolk Public Library Board of Trustees was held on December 20, 2007 at the Norfolk Public Library.  In attendance were Robin Glasser, Library Director; Mary Jo Gothorpe, President of the Friends of the Norfolk Public Library; and the following Trustees; Ken Nelson, and Mary Jo Gothorpe.
The meeting was called to order at 8:08 A.M.

Approval of Minutes
The November15th meeting minutes were approved.

Director’s Report
Mrs. Glasser reported that the final editing of the Guide to Services brochure has been done.  It will be mailed to all Norfolk households in January 2008.  The Department of Corrections is printing the brochure, and the mailing costs will be covered by donations from area businesses:  Dedham Savings Bank, Prudential Page Realty, Wagner-McDonough Attorneys, and Norfolk County Dental associates for a total of $1,800.

Mrs. Glasser announced that Kathy Astley has been promoted to Technical Services Librarian.  This promotion will take effect in January.

Associate Director’s Report
Mrs. Glasser reported that self check usage in November was at 47%; the highest percent of usage during the month was 63%    One year ago the average self check usage was at 38% for the same period.  
Circulation for the month was 9,664 items
Two sprinkler heads in the juvenile area froze during the last cold spell.  No damage resulted, and repairs have been completed.

 
Permanent Building Committee/Interiors Report
Final configuration of the sprinkler system for the School House is being completed.

Strategic Plan Report
No report

Friends of the Library Report
Mrs. Gothorpe reported that the Friends of the Library held their meeting on December 3, 2007.  Final planning was completed for the Annual Membership Drive.  The Friends will gather on Sunday, January 27, 2008 to prepare the membership packets for mailing.

New Business
A review of the 1st draft of the 2009 budget was completed.

Old Business
There has still been no response from the Selectmen to a second letter sent to them by the trustees regarding Mrs. Glasser’s compensation.  

The Long Range Plan document will be reviewed at the January meeting.

The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, January 17, 2008 at 6:00 P.M.

Adjournment
There being no further business it was moved and seconded and the Trustees VOTED to adjourn the meeting at 9:00 A.M.
