Director’s Report
Mrs. Glasser reported that the Fiscal 2008 budget predicates an 8:00 P.M. closing time on Monday through Thursday which will become effective July 2nd. Also the salary line is so tight that there is no funding for coverage in the event of extended sick time.
Associate Director’s Report
Ms Pisani-Kristl reported that 9,958 items were checked out in April which is a 6% increase over 2006 April figures and a 55% jump over 2004 figures which reflect the last April in the old building. Comparisons while in our temporary location are irrelevant.
The self check station statistics continue to improve with patron familiarity. There was an overall usage of 44% for the past month with a high of 60%.
Aslan Electrical is in the process on installing the security cameras. The Police Department will be notified of the progress of installation and the utilization of the system. A privacy policy is being created as this is the first time that cameras are being utilized within the Norfolk Public Library.
Permanent Building Committee/Interiors Report
Mr. Boulay reported the final coordination of bid documents is occurring between the Community Preservation Committee, Bill Domineau, of the Historical Commission, and Harvey Boulay.

Friends of the Library Report
Mrs. Gothorpe reported that the Friends of the Library Annual Book and Bake Sale held on the weekend of April 27th was the most profitable sale in the Friends’ history. Over $14,800 was deposited into the Friends account to be used exclusively for programs and projects at the library. At the Friends meeting on May 14th, we also discussed two fund raising ideas for the fall. One will be a Community Wide Yard Sale to be held in the parking lot of the library tentatively scheduled at the end of September or the beginning of October. Spaces can be rented from the Friends and the Friends will do all of the advertising to ensure lots of shoppers for the treasure on sale. The other idea being discussed is a Wine and Cheese event to be held at the library in the November
time frame at which a wine expert will be available to discuss wines for the holiday season. Appropriate foods will be provided to accompany those wine selections. Advertising for both events will begin over the summer. The Friends of the Library will hold their last meeting on June 4th before taking the summer off to energize themselves for more fun and fund raising in the fall.
