Meeting of the Norfolk Public Library Board of Trustees
September 20, 2006
A regular meeting of the Norfolk Public Library Board of Trustees was held on September 20, 2006 at the Norfolk Public Library. In attendance were Robin Glasser, Library Director, Mary Jo Gothorpe, President of the Friends of the Norfolk Public Library, and the following Trustees; Harvey Boulay, Kenneth Nelson, and Mary Jo Gothorpe.
The meeting was called to order at 8:02 a.m.
Approval of Minutes
The minutes of the August 23, 2006 meeting were approved.
Director’s Report
Mrs. Glasser reported that the book sorter is to be installed on September 21, 2006.
Mrs. Glasser also reported that a Rental Collection of Best Sellers is being prepared and will begin on November 1, 2006. A Rental Collection of DVD’s will follow.
The financial compliance report was sent to Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners (MBLC.)
Associate Director’s Report
Ms Pisani-Kristl was not in attendance at this meeting; however Mrs. Glasser reported that this was the busiest August ever.
Permanent Building Committee/Interiors Report
Mr. Boulay reported that architect Arlan Li has completed the bid proposal for the work to be done on the School House, and he will oversee the renovation.
Strategic Plan Report
No Report
Friends of the Library Report
Mrs. Gothorpe reported that at the September 11, 2006 meeting of the Friends of the Norfolk Public Library a request from the children’s librarian Mrs. Sarina Bluhm for $3,000 for children’s programming was approved. Mrs. Glasser’s request of financing for the initiation of the Rental Collections of Best Sellers and DVD’s was also approved. Seed money of $1,000 to purchase DVD’s and $4,000, previously used for the McNaughton books, will now be allocated to buy the Best Sellers. Evaluation after one year was agreed upon and a monthly accounting of the program to the Friends will be initiated.
Old Business
The Town Quilt which was presented to the library Trustees at Norfolk Day will be hung in the lobby of the library.
New Business
Mrs. Glasser reported on an initiative by the MBLC which will match donations made to the library by private organizations or persons from July 1, 2006 through December 31, 2006. A minimum of $2,000 and a maximum of $100,000 will be matched.

Adjournment
There being no further business it was moved and seconded and the Trustees VOTED to adjourn the meeting at 9:00 am.
