Director’s Report
Mrs. Glasser reported that the Medway Library is likely to close because of budget shortfalls in the town of Medway.  Town meeting will vote on -----------.  After discussion, a decision to not serve the patrons of the Medway Library at the Norfolk Library was approved.

Staffing for fiscal ’07:  Mrs. Glasser reported the following changes in the staffing at the library.  Maryanne Matulawitz will be leaving her position as cataloger at the end of June.  Kathy Astley will be moving from the Centennial Library to the public library working part time.  She will work about 14 hours per week cataloging and the remaining hours at the circulation desk.  Mary Carney is in negotiations with the school committee to remain at the H. Olive Day Library part time.  Heather MacPherson has been hired as children’s librarian in the Wrentham School System.  Betty Lehan will be retiring

Bonnie Dietrich has reported that the Cultural Council may not be able to continue directing the placement of art work in the new meeting room

Mrs. Glasser reported that the Strategic Planning Committee is a hard working hard and very hands on group.  The Selectmen will attend their next meeting to discuss the future of the town from their perspective in order to give the committee information which will be used to create their final document.  The library survey will continue to be distributed, and will also give needed information to the committee.  The survey is now available on the library web site in addition to paper copies at the library.

Mrs. Glasser provided a copy of the Superintendent’s newsletter sent to parents on May 11, 2006 outlining a basic structure of the school libraries for fiscal ’07.

Associate Director’s Report
Ms Pisani-Kristl reported that there were 19 meetings in the meeting room during April

Permanent Building Committee Report by Robin Glasser
A certified letter from t he DPW was received stating that the backflow preventor failed certification.  This is understandable because there was no backflow preventor installed during construction at the recommendation of the Permanent Building Committee.

Interiors Report
The reworked end panels have been installed
The new library tables have been delivered.  Following the formal meeting the trustees inspected the end panels and library tables.

Friends of the Library Report
Mrs. Gothorpe reported that the proceeds to date from the Book and Bake Sale are over $13,000.  The sale was held in the Highway Department Garage, and the facility was far superior to the tent, which has been used for the past eight years.

The 2006 Membership Drive is also a success with 377 new members and $12,300 received to date.  This figure does not include people who joined at the Book Sale so they could attend the Friday Night Friends-Only Preview and Sale.

The 2005 Jeanne D. Hill plague which is hung each year in the library to honor those who join the Friends of the Library at our highest membership level of $50.00 or more is being engraved and will be hung soon.

The Friends are in the process of refurbishing the large Norfolk Library sign which will hang at the entrance to the parking lot.  This should be installed by the end of July

Town Hill dedication is scheduled for Saturday, September 9 at 10:30 a.m.  A request for use of the meeting room to serve refreshments was approved.
