SPECIAL MEETING
January 11, 2007
Present was James C. Lehan, Jonathan P. Smith, Ramesh H. Advani and Jack Hathaway, Town Administrator.
Sarah DelMastro, Chairman of the Affordable Housing Committee was also present.
At 7:15 p.m., Jim Lehan called the meeting to order. This was a special meeting held to conduct interviews for candidates interested in the Affordable Housing Committee.
Bill Crump, 45 Massachusetts Avenue, Precinct 1. Bill said he wants to give back and be part of the community. Bill was a long time member of the Road Safety Committee. He has minor senior housing development experience. He has not participated in a 40B. He needs to be proactive in establishing benchmarks. He feels their job is to monitor and maintain the Affordable Housing plan. He said he has the time to put into this committee. Bill told the Board that his background is in the health field. Nursing homes and senior housing. He has done financial as well as demographics. He feels he would like to contribute.
Karen Courtney, 22 Hunter Road, Precinct 2. Karen told the Board that she just moved here in June. She is newly married and new to the community. She thought that by becoming a member, she could get to know the community and contribute. She would like to meet people and get to know the area. Karen said she has a degree in Accounting – MBA/MST. She went to Northeastern and Suffolk. The Board said they would like to know more about her and what her interests are because we may have a fit with another board or committee. Karen said she loves the arts. She loves to plan and coordinate events. Jim suggested perhaps the Library or Norfolk Community League. Karen told the Board that she has an open schedule and meetings wouldn’t be a problem.
Jeannette Wood, 345 Main Street, Precinct 2. Jeannette told the Board that she has lived in Norfolk for most of her life. She was one of the first women Auxiliary Police officers in Norfolk back in the 70’s. She is currently a Senior Loan Officer at Foxboro Federal bank and is a mortgage broker. She is very interested in housing, because that’s part of her job; to put people in housing. She feels that the housing should be near the center so they can use public transportation. Jeannette said she feels different things could be tried, like rent and services. People could work for their housing. Jeannette would advocate for something like this. She is very interested in being a part of this committee and said that now that her children are older and moved out, she would have
the time to give back to the community. She would be able to attend the meetings and devote her time.
The Board discussed the candidates, and asked Sarah who she thought she might like for the committee. Sarah said she would select Bill Crump and Jeannette Wood. The Board agreed and said that they were very impressed with Karen Courtney, but would hope that she would volunteer for another committee that she would be more suited for. They felt that Bill and Jeannette had more experience.
Jonathan Smith moved to appoint Bill Crump, Precinct 1 member and Jeannette Wood, Precinct 4 member nominal given there were no candidates from Precinct 4 to the Affordable Housing Committee, term to expire June 30, 2007. Ramesh Advani seconded, and it was so voted.
Jonathan Smith moved to open the warrant for the Annual Town Meeting. Ramesh Advani seconded, and it was so voted.
At 8:43 p.m., Ramesh Advani moved to adjourn the meeting. Jonathan Smith seconded, and it was so voted.
