Hydrant Flushing
FLUSHING NOTICE

Norfolk Department of Public Works
Water Division
Norfolk, MA  02056

Dear Customer:

The 2007 Spring Hydrant Flushing Program was completed the week ending May 18, 2007.  Please remember that chlorination of the system will continue as noted below.

Beginning Monday, April 23, the NDPW will begin adding chlorine to the water system in preparation for flushing.  The chlorine is a precautionary measure to try and prevent total coliform outbreaks in the system during flushing.  Residents will notice a slight chlorine odor in the water, but please be assured your water is safe to drink.  Chlorine will continue to be added to the system during and for at least one week after the flushing program has been completed.

By implementing this program, the Norfolk Department of Public Works intends to reduce dirty water occurrences and improve water quality.

If you believe a problem has occurred due to the flushing program, please contact the Department of Public Works office at 508-528-4990.

Residents who experience rusty or dirty water should do the following:
1.  Flush water piping using COLD WATER ONLY from a bath tub faucet for approximately 15 minutes, then all other cold water fixtures in the house for 5 minutes.
2.  Check water before washing clothes.
3.  Check water prior to running dish washer
4.  Check water before using for cooking
5.  If WHITE clothes become discolored, “Iron Out” is available at the local hardware store and at the DPW Office between the hours of 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM

Thank you for your patience and cooperation in this matter.
